Civil Rights Paralegals are essentially the most important, back-office support staff of civil law attorneys. They are required to take upon a range of legal and administrative duties for their office. This involves preparation of legal briefs, conducting legal research or conducting client profile checks. This includes preparing legal documents, filing papers on behalf of the attorney/client and performing non-legal research apart from maintaining case files and other workplace organizational systems. The Legal Assistant might also be asked to correspond with potential clients via the phone/email who are seeking legal consultation. Here, Legal Assistants are required to gather information and do a pre-screening to separate ‘actual’ clients from ‘potential’ clients.
