Components of Florida Paralegal Association

Florida Paralegal Association is divided into a state association and several local organizations in relation thereto. The Paralegal Association of Florida Inc. (PAF) is the State association of paralegals in Florida. It is a professional association of approximately 1,000 paralegals from around the state of Florida. The association was incorporated in 1976 as Florida Legal Assistants, Inc. However in 2000, the name was changed because the term “paralegal” is more appropriate in reflecting the substantive nature of its members’ responsibilities of rendering legal service, while of course, under the supervision of an attorney.

Independent Paralegal

Despite the ever-increasing demand for legal services that far exceeds that which lawyers can provide, paralegals have their work cut out for them. Why? Because lawyers have always been firmly in charge and paralegals, whose work encompasses most of a lawyer’s duties, are naturally perceived as competition. More so with independent paralegals, who work without direct supervision from an attorney at law.

Earnings may vary greatly but having a paralegal career is like working as a lawyer. Actually, the compensation depends on the kind of education, training and experience. The geographical location and employer’s size is also take into consideration. Generally, those who are employed in large law firms in highly- urbanized metropolis are paid more than those who are in small law firms in less- urbanized metropolis.

Established in the 1970’s, paralegal employment is not even considered ancient even in the new millennium. The United States Labor Department is predicting a high- demand of legal assistants by the year 2010. No wonder why there are plenty of paralegal courses that can be obtained online in order to cater to those whose lifestyle are busy in both home and office.
